The Adventures of Vivian Sharpe, Vegan Superhero Can't Post - Sign Up!

I haven't read this book yet, so this isn't a review or an actual recommendation, I just thought that folks would be interested in a book about a vegan superhero, written by the one and only Marla Rose.

The book's website, which has a really great trailer video (gave me chills down my spine, in the best possible way!): http://viviansharpe.com/

I've bought a copy, will read soon. It's ebook only at the moment, printed versions to be available starting April. The ebook is $3.99, so it's a good price!

The protaganist, by the way, is a 15 year old girl, so I'm *thinking* it is a YA book. I've emailed the author to ask.

Update: Marla confirmed that it's definitely a YA book.

As a librarian who's completely into YA, I can give my somewhat qualified opinion that THIS LOOKS AWESOME! :) Might have to load this one up on the ebook reader and give it a read!

Thumbs Up

I am hoping to have a chance to read it this weekend! Will be interested to hear what you think of it if/when you read it also. Smile

Your review makes me want to read the book. I think it's cool that someone wrote a YA book about veganism, but that alone didn't convince me to check it out. I've become wary of YA, though I'm the intended audience, ha! Too often there isn't enough character development, the writing is barely mediocre, etc.

I currently have on top of my dresser a "To-be-read" book pile that is literally (not figuratively) two feet tall, but Vivian Sharpe will probably be pushed to the top. Ooh, here's an idea - if I like it, I'll suggest it to the school book club. I'll post an update after I've found time to read something other than AP textbooks (bleh! Frown).

I don't read much YA, so I will be very curious to hear your thoughts after you've read it!

And that would be really cool if you thought your book club would like it too. I'm always curious to see how others (i.e., non-vegans) react to books like this. I didn't think it was vegan focused to the point that it limits the audience...which is maybe strange to say considering that the entire plot really was about animal/environmental rights...

Anyway, best of luck with those exciting AP textbooks! I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on Vivian Sharpe in the future!

Only the English AP test left, so I figured it's time for an update, although there's not much for me to say just yet. I hoped to order the book, but I see that at the moment it's available only in e-reader or download format. Frown I'm a book collector - I like to reread, to turn physical pages, to see a book on a shelf. The FAQ page says it should soon be available in stores like B&N - I will try to wait patiently.

Hi,
I'm connected with the author of Vivian Sharpe, and I'm familiar with a lot of the details. The book is now out in print (softbound) form at Amazon. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/...337039898&sr=1-1

Also, I'm admittedly biased, but I feel that this book has very strong, three-dimensional and growing characters who often say and do really unpredictable things, so readers looking for great characters (and really good dialogue) should come away feeling satisfied. The reviews the book has received so far have all agreed with this point. Marla is a longtime vegan journalist and activist, so she knows this subject from the inside out and knows how to write about it.

Hi, John, and thanks for letting us know the book's now out in paperback.

By the way, I tried to edit the link to make it live and it wound up getting truncated, but anyway, if anyone wants to click on it, click away! Support vegan superheroes!
