Start of a new lifestyle need help Can't Post - Sign Up!

After always feeling completely tired and drained when I eat meat I am giving it up and going veg. I need some support! And help because my fiancé is a die hard meat eater, how can I combine the two worlds so I don't have to make a million and one meals?!

Something like this might help: Living Among Meat Eaters

I haven't actually read it myself, but I have always heard good things about it for exactly your situation.

But without having to get a book before getting some ideas, these are my thoughts:

  • serve your meals with lots of side dishes you can fill up on - cook the meat separate (if you can't get out of serving it) so you're essentially making one meal, but you'd focus on the "side dishes" and your fiancé would focus on the meat

  • talk to your fiance, maybe you can come to an agreement that dinners will be veg by default - if they absolutely must have meat on a given night, they can prepare it themselves to accompany the rest of the meal, right?

Okay, I guess that's all I have. Though there are many subtle variations on those two. I'd definitely recommend talking to them, though. You need support from them too, not just us! (though especially at first, you might get more support from us, it's true...)

Also, a cookbook recommendation that might help: The Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes Cookbook

Hey, that's great that he's understanding and respectful! It makes life a lot easier for everyone.

And if he's open to trying some of the vegan "meats", it could make life a lot easier with regards to meal preparation.

And pretty much with perfect timing, I just read this post today about umami, the "5th taste", which might help a lot with finding veg meals that your fiancé would enjoy too! Is Umami a Secret Ingredient of Vegan Activism?

Slightly belated, but welcome! I'm glad the future husband accepts your veg*nism. Even if he's not 100% behind you yet, over time he'll get used to it. I hope to see you around!
